On the 25h April AVBOB launched its second Mobile Container Library with the recipient being Sapphire Road Primary School in Booysens Park Port Elizabeth. This partnership between the sponsor Avbob , the charity Touch Africa and the Dept of Education will see a further 28 libraries find their rightful place in school grounds throughout South Africa in the next few years.

The decision to choose Sapphire was an easy one as the school has a strong infrastructure and a great leader, namely Headmaster Bruce Damons.

Touch Africa has worked with Sapphire for many years and the success stories are endless with an incredibly well orchestrated feeding scheme courtesy of KFC Add Hope and a safe haven sponsored by Tenneco some years ago. Avbob had no hesitation in agreeing to support Sapphire school and its 1000 plus learners.

Literacy at schools is a major concern and considering that only 8% of public schools in South Africa have functional libraries, the road that
Avbob have decided to travel with their library projects will go a long way to bridging this literacy gap.

Rotary South Africa and Mr Tom Borrill gave us access to their book stockpile and this ensured that the Sapphire library had the right mix of books. The balance of the books were funded by Avbob with Readers Warehouse assisting the Touch Africa team.

Mr Frik Rademan the CEO of Avbob certainly leads by example and his commitment to the library campaign was evident as he delivered his speech to the community of Sapphire Road. “We at AVBOB have embarked on this journey in order to contribute to the unleashing of potential inherent in each and every one of the young learners, whose lives we will be touching over the next three years “ says Mr Rademan..

The first of the 2013 projects was launched on the 18 January 2013, at the Shukumani Primary School in Tembisa, Gauteng . Lwazi school situated in Guguletu Cape Town will be the lucky recipient of Avbob’s 3rd library and this reveal is set for the 24 May. Thereafter each and every month a lucky school will receive a fully stocked library
