Ride 4 Change

A motorcycle based extreme Charity Ride event being staged in

the Kingdom of Lesotho and the Wild Coast of South Africa.

Ride 4 Change – Wild Coast, South Africa

The South African Wild Coast has instilled great memories over the last 18 years with Enduro Africa through our Ride 4 Change events. Our charity,  Touch Africa has  been the proud beneficiary of these charity Bike Rides. Monies raised on these events has allowed us to build 50 container libraries, 4 creches and assist us in making a massive difference to these impoverished communities.

The 7-day ride on the trusty Hondas will expose you to Dirt Bike Heaven and we will will use the hotels from Morgans Bay to Coffee Bay, and stay 2 nights at most of the hotels. It’s your choice if you want to ride every day or whether you want to chill in the bar or at the beach.

The opportunity to bring a partner along to share the experience is a new addition to our Wild Coast Adventure. The partner package is 300 Pounds.

Out of each Ride Fee, we will be donating 500 Pounds to our charity Touch Africa. The charity’s focus is ECD (Early Childhood Development) and these funds will be used to build a new creche for 50 kids, and implement a feeding scheme for a 12-month period.

1. The Dates

We think November 2024 will be a good time to vist the sunny Wild Coast and escape the start of the English Winter.

The Wild Coast Adventure ride is scheduled to take place from the 18th to the 25th of November 2024.

2. The Bikes

The bikes are still the trusty Honda CRF230 and are our weapon of choice for the Wild Coast Adventure ride. We are sure that you still have great memories of the Hondas and what they are capable of.

Typical Itinerary

We will be using the below hotels from Morgan Bay to Coffee Bay, and stay for 2 nights at most of the hotels.

It’s your choice if you want to ride every day or whether you want to chill in the bar or at the beach.

Day 1 – Morgan Bay Hotel | 18 November

After a pleasant overnight flight, you will arrive at East London Airport, where an air-conditioned shuttle bus, loaded with ice-cold beers, will transport you to the beautiful Morgan Bay Hotel. Upon arrival, you will be shown to your rooms, and an introduction to your bikes will be scheduled for the early afternoon. Enjoy sundowners at Black Cliffs, setting the scene for the next eight days of the Wild Coast Adventure ride.

Day 3 – Kob Inn Beach Resort | 20 november

There is no pressure, and you have various ways to spend your day at Kob Inn. The options include riding your bike for 2 to 4 hours, taking a circular route via the magnificent Shixini River, or simply chilling on the beach. You can even enjoy a leisurely sleep in. The choice is yours. It’s your holiday, so enjoy it!

Day 5 – Ocean View Hotel | 22 November

Once again, this is your day, and whether you feel up to a ride or not, is your call. The area around Coffee Bay is Dirt Bike Heaven, and the views will blow you away.

If it’s all too much, you can visit the various drumming spots in Coffee Bay, have lunch on the cliffs of White Clay, or enjoy a beer overlooking the famous Hole-in-the-Wall.

Day 7 – Wavecrest Hotel | 24 November

This day covers a long distance, but it’s short in terms of time spent in the saddle. We’ll be riding to the town of Wiollowvale to refuel. From there, we’ll continue through Cats Pass onto the Mazeppa Bay Road and head down to the coast via the Manubi State Forest. Finally, we’ll arrive at another gem along the Wild Coast, namely the Wavecrest Hotel and Spa. We should reach our destination by lunchtime, providing everyone with the opportunity to relax in the jacuzzi on the deck during the afternoon.

Day 2 – Kob Inn Beach Resort | 19 November

Welcome to the Wild Coast as we cross the mighty Kei River by Motorised Ferry and embrace the magnificent Wild Coast, with stopovers at Trenneries, Wavecrest, and Mazeppa Bay Hotel. Our last challenge for the day is the mighty Gorge and crossing the Qora River. From here, it’s all the way to the shore with the Wild Coast’s finest, Kob Inn Beach Resort. Nestled right on the Indian Ocean shore, flanked by the river and the sea.

Day 4 – Ocean View Hotel | 21 November

We head along the coast, riding on rolling grass hills until we reach the quaint village of Beecham Woods. We have to cross two mighty rivers, the Nqabara and Mbashe, which is an easy 30km gravel road ride. Then, we return along the coast, passing by Hole In The Wall, and reach our final destination: the Ocean View Hotel, which is virtually on the beach in a small magnificent bay between great towering cliffs and the sparkling Indian Ocean.

Day 6 – The Haven Hotel | 23 November

When God made a riding day, this is it. The beautiful cliffs, golden beaches, and incredible views will make this a very memorable day for all. A stopover at Bulls Inn, Bulungulu Backpackers, and crossing the Xora can be described in one word – AWESOME!

Our final stop at the Haven Hotel with its friendly staff is our favorite spot on the Wild Coast. It’s a very easy day, so we don’t need a rest for Day 7.

Day 8 – Morgan Bay Hotel | 25 November

You’ll have a late start in the morning at 9 am, and the ride to the Morgan Bay Hotel will be fast and furious, allowing you to arrive in time for showers and lunch. This is the time to catch up with some washing, laze on the beach and rekindle memories of the last 8 days on the most beautiful coastline in the world.

That evening is the official Finisher shirt handover and a Reunuion party of note.

Ride 4 Change – Lesotho

Ride 4 Change is a motorcycle based extreme Charity Ride event being staged in the Kingdom of Lesotho and the Wild Coast of South Africa. The mountains of Lesotho are challenging but the design of the route allows for both the Expert and Weekend Warrior to be accommodated. The beneficiary of this charity ride is SA based Charity Touch Africa with its key focus being Early Childhood Development and monies raised will be used to build a new creche on the wild coast. Check out www.touchafrica.co.za

Touch Africa’s expertise also lies in the ability to leverage support from South African based corporates by offering them not only a CSI solution but also integrating these efforts into their classical marketing strategy.

1. The Bikes

As we all know the trusty Honda CRF 230 is no longer produced so we have to keep our fleet alive and well. This is the perfect weapon for Lesotho and the bikes are literally “bomb proof”. They will get you from the Start to the Finish line in great shape.

2. Hotels and Accommodation

Lesotho’s accommodation is all Mountain Lodges and each have unique characters and personalities. Remoteness is something that typifies these lodges with some being close to 3000m in elevation. Great Food, Pubs, Open fire place and comfy accommodation is the order of the day.

Typical Itinerary

Day 1 – Dates TBC

Group will be collected from Maseru airport and transferred to Ramabanta Lodge some 1 hours’ drive away. This is the gateway to the home of the Roof of Africa and famous passes like Baboons, Black Neck and Bridal Path await. A traditional South African Braai and the riders briefing with a great Goody bag including jackets and riding shirts are well received by all.

Day 3 – Dates TBC

A big day as we wind our way up and up all the way to the place of Smoke called Semonkong. The lodge is one of the highlights and at just on 2700m it will take your breath away. This is our highest point of the whole trip and a visit to the Mantsunyane Falls is one of the highlights.

Day 5 – Dates TBC

Our target is to ride to Katse Dam some 50 km away and on arrival go on a tour of the Katse dam. The tour takes us into the bowels of the 70 m wide dam wall. We visit a local crèche and hand out some sweets, crayons, coloring books etc. and head back to the Katse Village and Orion Lodge. This is a relatively easy day.

Day 7 – Dates TBC

We are aiming for the Pony Trekking station of Malealea Lodge but between the riders and home is the magnificent Ribaneng gorge which follows the Makhaleng River all the way into Malealea. This is a famous pass used by the Roof of Africa in the early days and our final stop and finish line for Ride 4 Change 2024.

Day 2 – Dates TBC

The typical day on Ride 4 Change is a nice morning ride which caters for all skill levels and then after lunch we introduce the riders to the Lesotho Extreme. This is optional and one can just chill out at the hotel if you wish. An incredible start as we follow some of the Bronze route on sled paths up the Ribaneng Valley. Included in this day 2 is the famous Baboons Pass and once we summit our overnight is back to Ramabanta for Night 2 and some Cold Maluti Lagers.

Day 4 – Dates TBC

After breakfast we take the back 4 x4 jeep track from Semonkong all the way to Mantsonyane. The vistas as we climb close to 3000 meters elevation is mind blowing to say the least. We exit onto the main tar road and have a 40km scenic tar route all the way into Thabo Tseka and the wonderful Clan Lodge.

Day 6 – Dates TBC

In 2023, this is the pass that we slept in, but in 2024 we are going to do in reverse. We will have an early start and it will be a full day in the saddle so everyone be prepared. Team work and keeping the wheels turning is the trick to getting out the other side before nightfall sets in. Our home is Thaba Bosiu.

Day 8 – Dates TBC

It’s time to bid farewell and enjoy an hour’s drive to Maseru Airport to catch connecting flights home.
